The month of Ramadan is a time of spiritual reflection and celebration for Muslims around the world. To help you prepare for this blessed month, we have provided important dates to keep in mind.

How many days until Ramadan 2024?

The Islamic calendar follows the phases of the moon, also known as the lunar cycle. As a result, the month of Ramadan falls approximately 10 days earlier each year in the Gregorian calendar. In 2023, Ramadan is expected to begin on Wednesday, March 22nd, following the sighting of the moon over Mecca. The month will last for 30 days, ending on Friday, April 21st, followed by the celebratory days of Eid al-Fitr, starting on either Saturday, April 22nd or Sunday, April 23rd.

Key Dates for Ramadan 2024:

-Start of Ramadan: Monday, March 11.
-Duration of Ramadan: 30 days
-End of Ramadan: Wednesday, April 10st
-Laylat al-Qadr: On or around Saturday, April 6th
-Start of Eid al-Fitr: Wednesday.

Sawm, or fasting, is one of the Five Pillars of Islam and is primarily associated with the month of Ramadan. Those who are able-bodied and of sound mind are expected to fast during this time. Sawm takes place every day from sunrise to sunset, and it is important to familiarize yourself with the fasting times. The fast is traditionally broken at sunset with dates and a evening meal shared with friends and family.

Eid al-Fitr, or the Festival of Breaking the Fast, is the important holiday that marks the end of Ramadan. This holiday is celebrated for up to three days and starts upon the sighting of the moon. It is a time for great feasts, gift-giving, and spending time with loved ones. Be sure to check with your local mosque for confirmation of dates and any community activities happening nearby.

Zakat al-Fitr, a charitable contribution of staple food items, is also an important part of Ramadan. This donation is intended to help those in need enjoy the celebration of Eid al-Fitr. You can donate Zakat al-Fitr at any point during the month, but many choose to do so on Laylat al-Qadr, the Night of Power, which falls in the last 10 days of Ramadan. This is a special time in which rewards are multiplied.

Donations can be made through Muslim Aid and will be distributed to those in need. For just 5$ per person, you can provide a nutritious meal for someone living in poverty. Ramadan Mubarak from Muslim Aid.
