Ontario Stat Holidays 2027: Complete List of Dates
Ontario has nine statutory holidays in 2027: New Year’s Day, Family Day, Good Friday, Victoria Day, Canada Day, Labour Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. All nine come from the Employment Standards Act, 2000 (ESA). Civic Holiday, Easter Monday and Remembrance Day are not on that list.

Employees who do not normally work on a holiday that lands on a weekend are covered by the ESA’s substitute holiday rules, so confirm the exact days with your employer.

Non-Statutory Holidays Widely Observed in Ontario
Several dates feel like holidays but carry no ESA entitlement. The difference matters for pay, scheduling and business hours.
Easter Sunday and Easter Monday
Easter Sunday falls on March 28, 2027, and Easter Monday on March 29. Neither is an Ontario statutory holiday. Good Friday is the only Easter-weekend day with stat protection. Some employers and school boards still close on Easter Monday, so check your own workplace policy before planning.
Civic Holiday and Simcoe Day
The Civic Holiday falls on the first Monday of August, which is August 2, 2027. Toronto calls it Simcoe Day. Ontario does not require employers to give it, but many businesses, municipal offices and schools close, which creates the August long weekend.
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
September 30 falls on a Thursday in 2027. It is a statutory holiday for federally regulated employees, such as banks, airlines and federal government staff. Under the ESA it is not an Ontario public holiday, so provincially regulated employers decide whether to offer it.
Remembrance Day
Remembrance Day falls on Thursday, November 11, 2027. It is not an ESA public holiday. Many workplaces and schools hold ceremonies, and some employers close, but there is no legal entitlement to paid time off.
Ontario Long Weekends in 2027 by Month
Searches for “long weekend Ontario” and “next long weekend” are among the highest-volume holiday queries. This table shows each month of 2027 and the long weekend it contains, if any.
| Month | Long weekend | Dates |
|---|---|---|
| January | New Year’s Day | Friday, January 1 to Sunday, January 3 |
| February | Family Day | Saturday, February 13 to Monday, February 15 |
| March | Good Friday and Easter | Friday, March 26 to Sunday, March 28 (Monday, March 29 if Easter Monday is observed) |
| April | None | Easter falls in March in 2027 |
| May | Victoria Day | Saturday, May 22 to Monday, May 24 |
| June | None | No holiday in June |
| July | Canada Day | Thursday, July 1 (a four-day weekend if you take Friday, July 2 off) |
| August | Civic Holiday | Saturday, July 31 to Monday, August 2 (where observed) |
| September | Labour Day | Saturday, September 4 to Monday, September 6 |
| October | Thanksgiving | Saturday, October 9 to Monday, October 11 |
| November | None | Remembrance Day is not a stat holiday |
| December | Christmas and Boxing Day | Saturday, December 25 to Tuesday, December 28 (where observed) |
There is no April long weekend in 2027 because Easter arrives on March 28. The same calendar produces an early Easter break, followed by a gap until Victoria Day in late May. Workplaces that also close on Friday, December 24 get a five-day run through December 28.
Ontario Stat Holiday Pay Rules for 2027
Stat pay searches, including “holiday pay Ontario” and “calculating stat pay Ontario,” are high-intent queries, so the rules are worth stating plainly. The official reference is Ontario’s guide to public holidays under the Employment Standards Act.
How to Calculate Stat Pay in Ontario
Public holiday pay equals all regular wages and vacation pay payable in the four work weeks before the work week that contains the holiday, divided by 20. Overtime pay is not included. For example, an employee with $4,000 in regular wages and vacation pay over that period receives $200 in public holiday pay.
Working on a Stat Holiday
If a qualifying employee works on a public holiday, the employer must choose one of two options. The first is public holiday pay plus premium pay of 1.5 times the regular rate for hours worked. The second is regular pay for hours worked plus a substitute day off with public holiday pay.
Who Qualifies for Stat Pay
An employee generally qualifies by working their last scheduled shift before the holiday and their first scheduled shift after it, unless they have a reasonable excuse. Some jobs follow special rules or are exempt, including certain agricultural and commission-based roles.
Toronto and Other Ontario Cities
Toronto, Ottawa, Mississauga, Hamilton and every other Ontario municipality follow the same provincial list of nine stat holidays. Local differences are limited to names and optional closures. Toronto uses the name Simcoe Day for the August holiday, while other municipalities call it the Civic Holiday.
